Okay!
Maybe everybody’s wondering what’s going on?
Everybody’s feeling tense
There’s suspense in the air
I don’t care
I'mma break you off some awesome knowledge
Nina hasn’t seen him since high school or college
Now Nina Rosario used to follow Benny around the barrio
Right behind him like Luigi after Super Mario
She would pursue him
But as she got older, she swore she outgrew him, screw him
But now, you can feel the desire; she didn’t forget him entirely
This is a poem she wrote for him in her seventh grade diary
Everybody ride with me, I’mma take you back to a time
When she was just 13 and sang quietly:
[NINA]
I fell in love on a Saturday, you were there
You were running your hands through your hair
Waiting for someone else
You were nervous
[BENNY]
Yo, you Lincoln’s sister?
[NINA]
What?
[BENNY]
Are. You. Lincoln's sister? You’re Nina right?
[NINA]
Uh huh
[BENNY]
Do you know where he is?
[NINA]
Combing his hair
[BENNY]
Yo Lincoln, get over yourself!
[NINA]
I know that you are much older, I am young
And I barely come up to your shoulder
But I’m growing...if you only knew
[BENNY]
So how old are you Nina?
[NINA]
What? Almost 14. How about you?
[BENNY]
Oh 18
You know it’s funny, you look a lot younger
[NINA]
Well apparently, I act like a baby
Cuz you laugh at how naive I sound
And I know that I’m childish but baby
I’m just helpless when you are around
Cuz I’m falling in—
[LINCOLN]
Benny, you’re late!
[BENNY]
What did you do to your hair?
[LINCOLN]
Shut up! C’mon, let’s go to Amy’s
[BENNY]
Finally!
Nice to meet you Nina
[LINCOLN]
Bye Nina. Love you
[BENNY]
Bye Nina, looove you
[LINCOLN]
Shut up!
[NINA]
And I write these useless words in my stupid baby diary
When tonight, you’ll be staying over
And I’m praying you desire me
Earlier today, I just looked away
As you shot a glance in my direction
But the hour is late and this feeling can’t wait
And I’m getting too old to be scared of rejection
I need you, I know you
And I’m getting too old to just do as I’m told
So believe me, you’ll need me
It was love at first sight when I saw you tonight
[LINCOLN]
So uh, what happened with you and Jessica?
[BENNY]
Oh my god Lincoln, I’m exhausted man. I’ll tell you in the morning
[LINCOLN]
You’re exhausted uh, why are you exhausted? What were you guys doing?
[BENNY]
The morning, son. The facts of life in the morning
[LINCOLN]
Don’t disappear like that next time, that was wack!
[BENNY]
Sorry dude, aight? I won’t do it again
Goodnight
[NINA]
Talk's cheap
I walk down the hall
And I must keep silent
Because you’re falling asleep
I’m in so deep
And I can’t sleep today
Cuz I’m falling all the time
You’re not helping by ignoring me
And I’m whispering all the time
In the hopes that something breaks through
And you’ll come home to me
Come home to me
Come home to me
