My pappy said, Son
You worthless hippie
You shameless drug fiend
You no-good alcoholic
You commie punk
You're gonna drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that hotrod Lincoln
Tell you a story about a hotrod race
Fords and Lincolns settin' the pace
Story is true, I'm here to say
I was drivin' that Model A
Got a Lincoln motor, really souped up
Model A body makes it look tough
Got eight cylinders, uses them all
It's got overdrive, never stalls
Four-barrel carb, a dual exhaust
4.11 gears, you could really get lost
Safety tubes, I ain't scared
The brakes are good, tires fair
Well, I pulled outta L.A. late one night
The moon and the stars shinin' bright
Drivin' up that Grapevine Hill
Passin' cars like they was standin' still
Car-passin' music
All of a sudden in the wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed me by
Said, Boys, that's a mark for me
By then the taillight was all you could see
Boys ribbin' me for bein' behind
I thought I'd make my Lincoln unwind
Took my foot off the gas, and man alive
I shoved it on down into overdrive
Well, I wound it up to a hundred-and-ten
Speedometer said that I hit top end
My foot was glued like lead to the floor
That's all there is, there ain't no more
Everyone thought I lost my sense
Telephone poles looked like a picket fence
They said, Slow down, I see spots
Lines on the road look like dots
Took a corner, sideswiped a truck
And I crossed my fingers just for luck
Fenders was clickin' on the guardrail posts
The guy beside me was white as a ghost
Bobby lyin'[?]
Smoke was comin' from outta the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass
You know, by then, I'd be outta gas
Flames comin' from outta the side
Feel that tension, man, what a ride
I said, Look out, I got a license to fly
Caddy pulled over and let me by
All of a sudden she started to knockin'
Down in the dips she started to rockin'
I looked in the mirror, a light was blinkin'
The cops was after my hotrod Lincoln
The police
The California Highway Patrol
The entire Los Angeles Police Department
The entire Fire Department
The National Guard
Half the Army
The Border Patrol
They had me down against the wall
They had me down on the ground
Then they handcuffed, they beat me, and they tortured me
Well, they missed
The pound of cocaine I had in my glove compartment
And they missed
The six tons of hash I had in my backseat
And don't forget about the ten
Illegal Mexican immigrant workers that I was smugglin' into the country
No, friends, they missed all that
You know, what they thought?
They though I was some kinda pervo, weirdo, S.L.A. punk
It was very embarrassing
And I showed up at my house
With black scars all over my body
They thought I had been to an S&M party
They arrested me and they put me in jail
And they called my pappy to throw my bail
He said, Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that hotrod Lincoln
Here we go
Alright
Yeah
