This song’s lyrics are where the album got its name from. Luke Reynolds had the idea for the melody while pacing a Brooklyn street, but it took two years and a half and some work from Ryan Miller and him to conceive the whole track.
[Verse 1]
If I could make a wish, if I could right a wrong
If I could plot a twist, we wouldn’t be here long
I’d lean in to each turn, seeking evermotion
[Chorus]
Soon the walls, the house, the sky start shaking
The clouds, the land, the sea
Gangway
[Verse 2]
I’m swinging with my fists, shouting with these lungs
With tongue and teeth and lips I’m screaming out a song, son
I lean into each turn, seeking evermotion
[Chorus]
See the walls, the house, the sky start shaking
The clouds, the land, the sea
Gangway
[Outro]
I turn into each turn, seeking evermotion
Now the walls, the house, the sky start shaking
The clouds, the land, the sea
Gangway
Gangway was written by Ryan Miller & Guster.
Gangway was produced by Richard Swift.
We actually worked really hard on this record to not have a lot of strumming acoustic guitars and so this is one that we felt very much deserved the acoustic part. – Luke Reynolds
