“Cure” came together in such a interesting way. I wouldn’t say typically how we write, but also kind of really happy it happened because it’s kind of a happy accident but, umm, Karah and Mickey just jumped on a Zoom with their friend Joe to just write and they, uh, I remember that day I was like “Oh man, like try to write something that like we don’t have yet, like a feeling or try to tap into something that, you know, we’re missing on this EP right now” and I remember at the end of the day thеy sent back the demo, and I was likе “Oh ‘Cure’, cool, cool title” and I clicked on it and at first like “Oh oh man” I didn’t like particularly love the song at first, I was like “Oh, this is really cool, like let’s put it in the, put it in the vault, you know if we’re passionate about it, we’ll revisit it and we’ll figure it out” and I remember Karah being like “No Rob, like I swear like this is like, this is the song that needs to be on the EP. This feels fresh for us, it’s just different, it’s like so like pop rock and we haven’t done anything with guitars in a while” and we’re just like “We need, we’re craving a feeling like this,” and I remember we then went back to the basement and like we started working on it, and like the second I started singing like the chorus, I like stopped and I was like “Ughh, what the hell was I thinking? Like I love this song. This is so fun to sing!” Um, and we worked a bunch of stuff, we wrote that bridge with the “Cure” reference, and again, we love bridges that kind of just like take you to like a world where you can scream and shout and um, I remember after that got laid down we were like “Oh man, this song is really, really, really special” and live now, it’s just unbelievable, like we get to just like rock out and like have so much fun on stage and again, that bridge just like it my favorite moment in the song. We hit that live, it’s just like “Boys don’t cry!” Like it’s so, so powerful. So yeah, and I think we landed this song lyrically in a way where like again, it’s pretty self-explanatory but we also like, uh like the second verse I think has some of my favorite lyrics like “Don’t wanna be a shrink and tell you what to think or tell you how to feel / But I can be your roots so carve it in a tree and we can make it real” like we still managed to kind of fit in that kind of imagery and those kind of like words that kind of, umm, I think we’ve kind of developed kind of our own lyrical style as Valley and we’ve, um, we’ve managed to kind of like paint with both brushes where, you know, it’s kind of the direct heart-on-sleeve thing, but also we can, you know we can still kinda get into a little bit more of a story and, and give you colors and imagery and things that, you know, aren’t as typical form or shape for lyrics, so yeah. Really, really happy this song is out
