Bloom by Poppy is about a relationship which she would like to grow out of. She explains her and her partner as “nothing more than living matter” meaning Poppy doesn’t feel like they belong.
[Verse 1]
Under the ashes of disaster
We're nothing more than living matter
We're all the same cut at the center
Uncertainty I cannot even measure
Can't measure at all
[Verse 2]
Why did I try to grow up faster?
'Cause now I feel untimely pressure
Still every day trying to be better
Uncertainty I cannot even measure
Can't even measure
Can't measurе at all
[Chorus]
Bloom like a flower
I bloom like a flowеr
And you took what I gave to you
I took it back from you
Now like a flower, I'll bloom
[Verse 3]
What will I turn into after? (Who will I be?)
When dark comes to take me under (Go, go, go)
Could I be great or be remembered? (Can't measure me)
Uncertainty I cannot even measure
Can't even measure
Can't measure at all
[Chorus]
Bloom like a flower, I
Bloom like a flower
And you took what I gave to you
I took it back from you
Now like a flower, I
Bloom like a flower, I
Bloom like a flower
And you took what I gave to you
I took it back from you
Now like a flower, I
Bloom like a flower, I (We all go out the way we came)
Bloom like a flower (We're nothing, then we're claimed)
And you took what I gave to you (Take the chance to start again)
I took it back from you (And bloom like new)
Now like a flower, I
Bloom like a flower, I (We all go out the way we came)
Bloom like a flower (We're nothing, then we're claimed)
And you took what I gave to you (Take the chance to start again)
I took it back from you (And bloom like new)
Now like a flower, I'll bloom
Bloom was written by Chris Greatti & Poppy.
Bloom was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen.
Poppy revealed to Hard n Heavy that “Bloom” was originally titled “Like a Flower.”
Bloom was called ‘Like a Flower.’ And then it was shortened. I’m a fan of the one or two words titles.
Crawling out of the wreckage and realizing you’re ok. Nothing is promised or certain but if you allow yourself, you can find solace in that – as living beings, we are equals because we share in impermanence – be kind while ur here. And fight back if you need to.
