[Verse 1]
Don't wanna wake up
Don't wanna wake up twenty-two
I know I won't be any different than I was yesterday
But in an instant, all my difference will be taken away
Don't wanna wake up
Don't wanna wake up twenty-two
Yeah, I can see you roll your eyes and say, "You're still really young"
But something's different 'bout this age that they don't tell anyone
[Chorus]
Oh, twenty-two, I still do what I used to do
Don't you think it's strange that number's just an age, but it changes you?
What'd you expect?
This year, the magic's gone and I'm all that's left
Yeah, you know it's true, there's nothing new about twenty-two
[Verse 2]
Don't wanna wake up
Don't wanna wake up twenty-two
Well, I could get my act together, but it's still just an act
Would you prefer I act mature? Would that get you off my back?
Don't wanna wake up
Don't wanna wake up twenty-two
I know it's dumb to get hung up on, so don't get me wrong
But I don't feel like I'll be me if I can't be twenty-one
[Chorus]
Oh, twenty-two, I still do what I used to do
Don't you think it's strange that number's just an age, but it changes you?
What'd you expect?
This year, the magic's gone and I'm all that's left
Yeah, you know it's true, there's nothing new about twenty-two
[Bridge]
When I was younger
Loved every bit of it
No one expected
Anything from a kid
When I was younger, younger, younger
It's just a number, number, number
Wish I was younger, younger, younger
It's just a number, number, number
[Chorus]
Oh, twenty-two, I still do what I used to do
Don't you think it's strange that number's just an age, but it changes you?
What'd you expect?
This year, the magic's gone and I'm all that's left
Yeah, you know it's true, there's nothing new about twenty-two
[Outro]
About twenty-two, about twenty-two, about twenty-two
Nothing new 'bout twenty-two
About twenty-two, about twenty-two, about twenty-two
Nothing new 'bout twenty-two

I wrote it on my 22nd birthday. I felt like 21 is the age where you’re like, “I’m an adult now,” in quotes, “because I can go out and drink.” And like, “I’m not being stopped from going to shows anymore.” And so it’s like you’re an adult but you’re still a kid and doing kid things.
And then 22 jus...
It definitely was particular to that age and that time. But looking back on it now, I’m like, I’m still so young, and there’s so much time in your life to pick a life path at any point. The song in general is a good lesson, maybe. Or just easy for people to identify with, because I think everyone go...
Only in that I wanted it to be the complete opposite of that song.
