Widely considered to be one of America’s greatest poets of the 20th century, Wallace Stevens (1879-1955) spent most of his life working as an insurance executive, after following his father into a legal career. Most of the poems for which he is famous were written well after he had turned 50. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his Collected Poems in 1955.
