About チャットモンチー (Chatmonchy)

Chatmonchy (チャットモンチー) is a two-piece all-woman rock band which consists of Eriko Hashimoto (guitar, drums, vocals) & Akiko Fukuoka (bass, drums, keyboards, chorus), hailing from Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, Japan. The band was originally a three-piece with Kumiko Takahashi (drums, chorus), however Kumiko left Chatmonchy in September 2011 due to a fading interest in drumming and making new music.

The band’s name is in two parts. One of the original members wanted to end the name with ‘monchy’ (a cute way to say ‘monkey’). Eriko came up with ‘chat’ and the name ‘chat monchy’ was created. It was later merged to one word, ‘chatmonchy’ when the current trio was formed.
