Stella Blumberg is an independent recording artist and songwriter based in Seattle, Washington. Her sound is influenced by many different musical styles and times. In her own words, her music is “an amalgamation of all the hurdles she’s cleared (or crashed over) in her life, those she chose to navigate and those forced in front of her.”

Her music is categorized as Pop on streaming services, ignoring the many times and styles that she’s not only drawn inspiration from but gone so far as to master conveying herself. She describes her raspy vocals as “part-Jeff Buckley, part-Arlo Parks”. And they’re commonplace, but stripped tracks such as “Adored” highlight her range.

Before her solo debut, Mar was one of five members comprising the anomalous, impromptu group No Entry. They released 7 on July 15, 2020, Stella’s delivery standout as she graces the latter three songs. But “Tacoma’s newest Hip-Hop [and R&B] collective” split up shortly after that.

Signifying an era of her own, Stella’s been working closely with friend and producer Nic Casey. Her solo debut came in the form of “Fair Weather Friend”, the term meaning “a person who stops being a friend in times of difficulty”. She confronts similar themes throughout her music, sometimes vague in expressing feelings and other times detailed in describing events that transpired.

The song was released on May 21, 2021 as the first of two promotional singles for her first album. It’s an atmospheric, tropical song about a deceitful past love interest. On June 25, 2021, “Glimpse” became the second and final promotional track.

Her first solo project White Noise was released on August 6, 2021. It contains eight tracks, each one solid enough to be a standalone single. The many styles and inspirations are more apparent as a body of work. Furthermore, Mar shared that the album is intended to be listened to linearly. With toxic relations in mind, it could also be seen as a habitual cycle when looped.

She returned with The Way / Mean To You, presumably in preparation for a second album. And after being teased with imagery from director and photographer Madison Ludgate, the single “Caution Sign” dropped on March 30, 2022.
