After being surrounded by the music and studio lifestyle through his family, Jack Light started rapping at the age of 12. With practice using a USB microphone in Audacity and working with producer Sanxion, Jack had his first track played by Mary Anne Hobbs on Radio 1.
By 16 his first official video ‘The Arrival’ was released on Channel AKA and debuted at #3 on their urban chart, where it remained for 3 weeks. This then saw the release of his music video ‘Underground (featuring MC Spyda)’. The single was licensed to the AKA: Streetz, Grime & Life compilation CD. After only 2 weeks the video received 10s of 1000s of views on You Tube. Jack’s third track ‘Hokkien’ was played by DJ Semtex on 1Xtra where he said Jack is ‘a lyrical beast at the age of 16’.
In 2012 Jack released his mixtape ‘Train Tracks’ which received 1000’s of downloads, followed by his first EP on iTunes. Within a day it hit Top 40 in the Hip-Hop album chart. Other mix tapes include ‘The Power of Hip-Hop’ and ‘Time’. In 2013 American rapper, Asher Roth, made Jack’s remix of his track ‘Pass That Dutch’ official. It was chosen out of thousands of remixs from producers around the world. Years later when Asher performed in England, he invited Jack on stage to perform. Jack also wrote and performed the lead track to the hard-hitting domestic violence movie “The Boyfriend” which was shown in Vue cinemas.
Jack has also found himself writing music with Riko Dan (Roll Deep), SL2 (On A Ragga Tip), Breeze (Breeze & Styles), 2J & Jon Doe (CLSM). Jack has been supported by a number of blogs such as Blatantly Blunt, Urban Vault, Black Budget, DJ Semtex, Soul Culture and HIP HOP Chronicle to name a few. Jack has featured on iconic UK stations such as Kool London, Pyro Radio and Image Radio as well as having his music played on Rinse FM, BBC Introducing and Reprezent Radio. Jack has performed up and down the UK, performing at venues such as the Indigo2 and Kentish Town Forum in London to The Garage in Glasgow. As well as producing and writing music, Jack has started to DJ and has been performing and doing sets across Kent at university nights and local venues. Jack is continuing to develop his understanding of music production and technology through study and practice.
In late 2016 Jack set up up his own record label ‘WooBoom’. Dedicated to creating a platform for students to release their music and reach their target audience. He hopes it will become the place to source the next big acts.
