HUNJIYA (hun-jee-yuh) is the musical alias of singer, songwriter, and producer, Alice Kim. Combining memorable, yet confessional storytelling with soul-infused guitar performance, Kim creates a novelty mixture of pop, alternative R&B, and folk.
Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in a small town in upstate New York, the 22-year old songstress got her start in the arts by learning from her visual artist mother. After picking up a few instruments from a young age, Hunjiya found her knack in guitar, producing, and songwriting while entering into high school. Initially teaching herself these skill sets, she eventually went on to study music in university.
In 2017, Kim released her stripped down, self-produced/self-written debut EP, Lineage, which started out as a personal gift for her grandparents who had never heard her music prior to the project. Combining both Korean and English lyrics, each song is written from the perspective of her grandparents and how they fell in love with one another.
Two years later, Hunjiya released her second project and full length album, “Look After August” which explores self-identity and self-care in her early twenties.
HUNJIYA's first album Lineage released on Tue Aug 01 2017.
