always

keshi * Track #10 On trilogy

always Lyrics

[Intro]
One, two, one, two, three
Lend me your ears

[Verse 1]
Hey, where'd you go?
Could've sworn that you were sleepin' over
Say, I don't know
But I thought that we were starting over

[Chorus]
Like we always do
Like we always do
Was I a fool?
To think that we always would
(Yes or no? This is your last chance, no beating around the bush)

[Verse 2]
Gone, not a trace
And it's almost like it never happened
No, not the same
Guess it hurt me more than I imagined

[Chorus]
We always do
Like we always do
Was I a fool?
To think that we always would

[Guitar Solo]

[Chorus]
Like we always do
Like we always do
Was I a fool?
To think that we always would

Before...

What inspired it?

“Always” is a song about taking someone for granted under the assumption that they’d never leave, not because you couldn’t imagine a life without them, but because you were never really thinking about the future at all.

What was the process of making the song like?

Another exercise in trying to broaden the progressions I’d gravitate towards, the song starts with a major I and goes to a II. That’s something I avoided on the guitar because it grated on my ears without context. The voicing sounded so much more approachable and natural on the piano, and I was exci...
