This was the first song that Dan Auerbach and I wrote together, with the help of Pat McLaughlin. I hopped on a plane from Arizona, went to see Dan in Nashville and we started writing this song.
[Verse 1]
Left my home when I was seventeen
Feet were dirty, but my soul was clean
I was lookin' for a young man's dream, it seemed
Found a livin' up in Illinois
She brought me sorrow and she brought me joy
Treated me just like a rubber toy, oh, boy
[Chorus]
Don't take long to fall in love
Takes a little time to get back where you're from
Lookin' at the world through electric eyes
Feel like I died and woke up in paradise
[Verse 2]
Life is over 'fore it all begins
But if you're looking for a way back in
You can say you knew me way back when, back when
[Chorus]
Didn't take long to fall in love
Takes a little time to get back where you're from
Lookin' at the world through electric eyes
Feel like I died and woke up in paradise
[Outro]
Left my home when I was seventeen
My feet were dirty but my soul was clean
I'm still looking for that young man's dream, it seems
