[Verse 1]
I always wanted to be a someone
To climb those mountains that no one had stood on
To tell the world that I'd take it all on - my shoulders
[Verse 2]
Maybe a writer of books that made me
A name in papers that would acclaim me
The greatest writers would meet to name me - genius
[Verse 3]
I'd cover canvas with solid colour
Until they'd say that there was no other
And old Picasso, he'd call me his brother - and friend
[Verse 4]
I'd build the bridges, the ships and the towers
I'd be Frank Lloyd Wright with Brunel's powers
And I would think of designs for hours - each day
[Verse 5]
But they ignored my greatest writing
They scorned my painting and said it was frightening
Told me my buildings would fall to lightning - and rain
[Verse 6]
Soon they were saying that I was a failure
That I'd never make it, I should be a tailor
Or failing that try the sea as a sailor - of boats
[Verse 7]
So let others paint now, their touch is lighter
Some other author can become the great fighter
I'll be content just to be a writer - of songs
[Verse 8]
And some will love them and others will hate them
And I'll just hope that someone will rate them
And maybe some day investigate them - seriously
