What shall we tell all the children today?
They're waiting for stories, but what can we say?
Should we tell them same dirty lies that we heard
From my teachers a long, long time ago?
If we teach them wrong from right and then they
See us turn and fight, will they be listening
(Tell a story, please)
When we tell them of Heaven, and the miracles of God's love?
(Would you tell us a fairy tale?)
Will they believe?
(Tell us of hope)
Stories of people remain in my mind
And visions of worlds that I never could find
After searching in vain for philosphers' stones
What have I got to show them all?
If I tell those children lies
You know they'll see it in my eyes
Will they be listening
(Tell a story, please)
When I tell them of Heaven, and the miracles of God's love?
(Would you tell us a fairy tale?)
When I tell them of Heaven, and the miracles of God's love?
Oh-oh, tell the story
Tell the story
Cross your heart and hope to die
Do not ever tell them lies
Will all the children remind us
Truth will find us someday
Don't let their spirits be guided
And divided
No one could say
Oh Lord, I'm sorry the children lost their way
(What shall we tell all the grownups today?
Reading us stories, but what can we say?)
All those children, they need what we can't understand
Why we have to be living with these lies
If the future's in our hands
We'll have to learn the Master's plans
But no one's answering
(Tell a story, please)
When we ask them of Heaven, and the miracles of God's love
(No one's answering anymore)
When we ask them of Heaven, and the miracles of God's love
