I was taught the mechanical arts
I was tested and I passed
I must be a master, then
At last
It starts
I am a wheel in the engine

After years with no one
Nowhere I could go
All alone at night
With dust and candlelight
Laughter on the street below

Moving among the moving pieces

One of the ones who made it
One of the chosen few

All the empty time

Waiting for the closing chime

I am a wheel in the engine
Part of what keeps the motor moving

And now the time has come at last
To end this constant yearning
To be in behind the door
Where the masters study ancient lore
And learning

So I say
Somebody show me the secrets
Somebody tell me all there is to know
Draw me in deeper
Show me the way and then watch me go!

Now my life will be
All I dreamed it could be:
Look—I have brothers, sisters, family...
And Lani's dancing with me

Now I stand among them
Now we move as one
In and out, and then
Around and back again
Ever as it's always done
And I step in
Plant my heel
