“Waste” is the second song on Dove’s first EP, Bloodshot / Waste. The song describes how infatuated Dove is with her lover, Thomas Doherty, which she explained during a September 2019 Billboard interview. Dove had this to say about the song’s meaning:
‘Waste’ is very much about that feeling of bein...
[Verse 1]
Well, you have me in, in your hands
Like a lit, like a lit cigarette
Now I'm here in your room hitting snooze
On the side of your bed
I should've known it the day we met
That shit is worse than a hit and run
[Verse 2]
My mom thinks I need therapy
'Cause I sing, only sing about you
But the thing is that she
Doesn't know how you do what you do
But you must do this to everyone
That shit is worse than a hit and run
[Chorus]
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste
My love on you
[Verse 3]
When you leave my house, leave my car
Walk away from the restaurant
I admit I panic, I can't breathe
I bet you do this to everyone
And it's so cruel, but I'm having fun
[Chorus]
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste
[Post-Chorus]
My love on you
My love on you
My love on you
My love, I wanna waste
[Bridge]
Don't you want somebody who's gon' love you like I do?
Don't you want somebody who's gon' love you like I do?
[Chorus]
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste
My love
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste all my love on you
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste, yeah, yeah
I wanna waste
My love on you
Waste was written by Jonas Jeberg & Ingrid Andress & Dove Cameron & Delacey & Chloe Angelides.
Waste was produced by Jonas Jeberg.
Dove Cameron released Waste on Fri Sep 27 2019.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Dove said:
“Waste” has always felt extremely special to me. It was always the one that grabbed me the most. It’s probably the weirdest one; the production is definitely strange. I love that it’s a love song without being a really melty, drippy.
