[Intro]
[Verse 1]
I'm sure there's a promise God has made to you
That has not come into fulfillment
You've started to doubt whether it was ever meant for you
Why otherwise it has not come to pass, yet
At first, you were full of anticipation
Your heart was expectant when you set out on your mission
But then time passed by and it turned into frustration
Because the Promised Land was not yet in your possession
[Verse 2]
There were those among the heroes of faith who obtained their promises
Others who suffered mocking, flogging and even became prisoners
But also, those who rejected the resurrection for a better one that was talked about in prophecies
And although they were commended for their faith, they didn't receive what they presumed to seize
And even though we know that there is a reason for this
What should we do when we find ourselves wandering in the wilderness?
We might know that God has provided something better for us
But what to do in the meantime when we seem to be so lost?
What do you do when you're wandering
Going around in circles and wondering:
"Do the wonders spring
Still from the Living Water, from my King?
Where are you, my God, why are you lingering
What is happening?"
What do you do when you've come out from slavery
Tried to break this cycle for... what-feels-like-centuries
But only to find that your strength and bravery
Are running out because the Promised Land is nowhere to be seen?
[Verse 3]
Let me assure you, you are not alone in this
Every one of us has felt that our life, marriage, ourselves – you name it! – is a mess
That even though we've passed one test
Another one takes its place
And it feels like we're never able to take a break
It is okay to be not okay –
No, it is not only okay, it is needed
For your healing
That you would be willing
To admit it:
That you need help
Life can feel like failing a test
That you cannot retake or weight that's pressing on your chest
But once you see that God guides it as if He's playing chess
To bring forth victory from what seems to be a loss –
Just as He did with His death on the cross –
You'll understand there is beauty in the mess
Keep on sowing
Keep on growing
Keep on coping
Keep on hoping
Because the only way to be sure of not going
In the Promised Land is to stop walking
There is a miracle, a message
Coming forth from that messy
Broken and unsafe
Grieving place
[Verse 4]
Progress is never a straight line
It is curvy, messy, like headphones' cord, intertwined
And if it were, we wouldn't need God's intervenience
Yes, I agree, it would be convenient
But comfort and convenience
Never produce perspective, persistence
Perseverance and patience
In the same way, our personal
And relational
Growth and healing
Can begin once we start to deal with
Our deepest wounds, fears, and feelings
Once we open ourselves up to our Healer
And once you've understood that life is a journey
Love is a journey
Your marriage is a journey
Healing is a journey, not a quick fix –
Once you've understood that, you've learned the "trick,"
The "secret,"
Obtained the "kit,"
The "key," to make it in the wilderness
Once you've understood
That you
And everyone else, are works in progress
Once you've embraced the process
Even if it's nothing more but a mess
You will start to accept the wandering in the wilderness
Because you know that this intimate connection and closeness
Is the cure for your wounds and brokenness
Just remember as you're wandering: life is a beautiful, beautiful mess
And it happens in the wilderness
