Virginia Woolf (Live) Lyrics

[Intro]
Oh, we're gonna do a song that I wrote for Virginia Woolf. I um, I wrote papers about her in college but I didn't know what I was talking about. And then um, and then a few years ago I got a copy—my Mom's a librarian, so she gives me all these cool books, or loans then to me I should say—it was a copy of her abridged diaries. And I started reading her diaries. (I love you.) Love you too. Anyway, she became my friend through the pages and it was a connection through time and how human beings can affect each other. It's very profound and we'rе each a part of that. So this is what this song is about.

Some will strut and some will frеt
See this an hour on the stage
Others will not but they'll sweat
In their hopelessness, in their rage
We're all the same
The men of anger
And the women of the page

[Verse 1]
They published your diary
And that's how I got to know you
The key to the room of your own and a mind without end
And here's a young girl
On a kind of a telephone line through time
And the voice at the other end comes like a long lost friend

[Chorus]
And so I know I'm all right
Oh, my life will come, my life will go
Still I feel it's all right
'Cause I just got a letter to my soul
When my whole life is on the tip of my tongue
Empty pages for the no longer young
The apathy of time laughs in my face
You say each life has its place (Yeah)

[Verse 2]
The hatches were battened
The thunderclouds rolled and the critics stormed
The battles surrounded the white flag of your youth
Well, if you need to know that you weathered the storm
Of cruel mortality
Well, a hundred years later I'm sitting here living proof

[Chorus]
And so you know you're all right
Your life will come, your life will go
Still you feel it's all right
Someone will get a letter to your soul
When your whole life was on the tip of your tongue
Empty pages for the no longer young
The apathy of time laughed in your face
Did you hear me say each life has its place? (Every one of us)

[Verse 3]
The place where you hold me
Is dark in a pocket of truth
The moon had swallowed the sun and the light of the earth
And so it was for you when the river eclipsed your life
Sent your soul like a message in a bottle to me
And it was my rebirth

[Chorus]
You know we're all right
Oh, lives will come and lives will go
Still you'll feel it's all right, just one time
Someone gets a letter that goes straight to your soul
And then you'll know you're all right
(When your whole life is on the tip of my tongue)
Then you'll feel it's all right
(Empty pages for the no longer young)
You'll say it's all right
(And you said each life has its place)
Then it's all right, it feels all right
(And you said each life has its place)
And it's all right
And it's all right

[Outro]
Thanks. Thanks y'all.
