This song (as well as many others on the album) is a thinly veiled criticism of Tobias Forge and the band Ghost. The lyrics make allusion to the unmasking of Forge as Papa Emeritus/Cardinal Copia following the lawsuit filed by Soderberg and the other Nameless Ghouls.
[Verse 1]
The curtain rises, can you feel the stench?
Like burning bodies in a soggy trench
But such a nice decor
A smiling face draped over stone-cold eyes
Reflecting a fire, fueled with lies
You've seen it all before
[Pre-Chorus]
And now, it's time to break the spell...
[Chorus]
Tear their faces off and show who they are
Who they are
The way they gained your trust is so bizarre
So bizarre
It's Vaudeville!
[Verse 2]
Hear them cry to amplify your fear
They speak the words that soothe your ear
The weakest gets the blame
(It's Vaudeville)
Start riot, aim within your range
Smoke and teargas is the smell of change
That's a stage to claim
[Pre-Chorus]
And now, it's time to break the spell...
[Chorus]
Tear their faces off and show who they are
Who they are
The way they gained your trust is so bizarre
So bizarre
It's Vaudeville!
Tear their faces off and show who they are
Who they are
The way they gained your trust is so bizarre
So bizarre
It's Vaudeville!
