Not gonna lie, I had no idea who Russ was until we worked on his page in the Clean-Up Championship, so I thought your profile on Genius was actually a picture of you haha. But our first person we did for the championship was actually Joe Jonas. Why do you feel Joe Jonas was the best person for us to start with, and what is the meaning behind the team name "ItS tHa ReMix, dOhJOE!"?

1 Ooh, well, Joe Jonas was the right play. Not only were we both familiarized with him, but he was also in three different groups. Himself as a solo artist, DNCE, and Jonas Brothers. I took advantage of the IQ we could get, since all the IQ on all three of those artists would go to Joe Jonas.
2 Nicki and Doja are def in my top 3 artists and since they collabed with each other on "Say So (Remix)," I was so hyped. You already know the meaning, but the group name is play-on words with the opening line in the song, and added "JOE" since Joe was our artist lol. You were the one that came up with the "JOE" part!!!
3 Everyone thought that was me LOL, you, dreupdate, I wonder who else. 👀🧐

Definitely! I agree, Joe was a really great artist to start with for all those reasons, plus we both were familiar with his work too as well which I feel helped boost us up more as well!

From where we are now in September, looking back on the past year, what do you think your biggest accomplishment on Genius has been in 2020?

masterhype
Definitely hitting Russ' #1 scholar!! It took about three weeks or a month to reach the goal and worked really hard. I was at 2k IQ before the month started and gained 19k to surpass Russ himself. Thanks for all the upvotes and also to anyone viewing this, because I would've struggled a lot more!!

It was so amazing to see myself you be able to complete that accomplishment. It must have been a very exciting moment passing Russ himself for the #1 spot!

You mentioned Nicki and Doja are in your top 3 artists. If you had to choose what your favorite Nicki song is and your favorite Doja song is from their discography, what two would you choose and why?

1 Doja is easy here: Either Cyber Sex, Rules, or Juicy.
The reason for "Rules" is because of her excellent second verse, for "Juicy," it's because of the chorus, and for "Cyber Sex" - I really liked the whole song! Plus, at the time, when I was a whitehat, I made a tate that got fifty upvotes and that somehow made me love the song even more lol.
2 For Nicki, this is hard because I listened to EVERY song/verse of hers all the way from 2014 and up. I know her so well that if you said ONE word, I could match any song she used that word in. Hmmmm, I think I'd go with Barbie Tingz, The Way Life Goes (Remix), and Kissing Strangers! "Barbie Tingz" because of the rapping and dissing, "TWLG (Remix)" because of Uzi and the flow, and lastly, "Kissing Strangers" because Joe & Nicki on the same song is incredible.

So many great choices! I'm familiar with all of Nicki's music as well, I definitely need to check out more Doja myself though, I've heard some songs but not any of her albums fully, but I definitely plan to soon!

Continuing on with music, I would like to ask another music related question. Out of all your favorite artists, which artist (and their music as well) has had the biggest impact on you? You can explain the reasoning behind why if you would like to!

100% Nicki. Even though Russ is like my spirit animal at this point (Lol), Nicki def inspired me to continue listening to music and even writing my own! Def the best female rapper in the game and inspired me to pursuit into the music realm more!

Not really, but Russ takes about many inspirational subjects and topic, and that gives me wisdom!

My next question has to do with Genius itself! How did you first find out about Genius and if you remember, when did you join, and how long have you been an editor for?

masterhype
I honestly don't remember, haha, all I know is that I started near the "Slide Around" release (a Nicki feature) and started getting the hang of things!

Most recently, we added a new member to our Clean-Up Championship team, Genius member DreUpdate, which we have been so happy to have joined our team!! What is something new and fresh that DreUpdate brings to the team?

She definitely has a prowess of during things that take time and she takes time for her day to do stuff! She watches interviews when needed, makes custom arts and banner for me and people, and slowly getting the grasp of making really solid tates!

When it comes to new albums or new single releases, how do you listen to new music? I know some people will often stream an album/single before downloading, but is there a certain way you go upon listening to new releases?

Nope! I just stream on Spotify!

"WAP" is definitely my best and proudest scribe! As of now, 14 million view are on it and is the #4 most-viewed song all-time!! Not to flex or anything. 😉
