“Tranquilized” is the sixteenth track on The Handsome Family’s album “Scattered”, a collection of covers and B-sides.
The song was written by Brett Sparks, the singer of the band, in 1996, but was not released until this album in 2010.
Losing control
Was not my goal
I got lost
What will it cost? What will I do
When I'm through
Drinking in the smoking room
Trying to tranquilize
I can never leave this room
'Cause I know what's outside
On my street
The sound of feet makes me cough
And the breaks on the bus
How they squeal, that's how it feels
Watch TV, oh well, it's free
And I'm bored
And all that I do
Never gets through
Smoking in the living room
Huddled by the heat
Listen to the children's screams
Coming from the street
This isn't me behind the screen
It's my sleeve
I despise, I'm such a prize
I'm tranquilized
I can see that it's not me that you want
And I realize, I'm such a prize
I'm tranquilized
