After Jekyll’s final confrontation with Mr. Hyde, he and Lisa are finally married. However, Hyde doesn’t go down without much more of a fight and reveals himself at the wedding reception. He nearly kills Lisa in a fit of rage. He transforms back into Jekyll, who can stand this no longer. Jekyll begs...
[JEKYLL, spoken]
Mrs. Jekyll, may I have this dance?
[LISA, spoken]
Doctor Jekyll, you may have every dance!
(Musical interlude as JEKYLL and LISA perform their wedding dance. JEKYLL, suddenly feeling a sharp, familiar pain, leaves the dance floor. UTTERSON, noticing his friend's behavior, walks towards him.)
[UTTERSON, spoken]
Henry, what is it?
[JEKYLL, spoken]
Don't make a fuss- Terrible pain- Get me out of here- Need to breathe-!
(JEKYLL flinches sharply, growling in pain.)
[UTTERSON, spoken]
Oh, my God...!
(The guests watch in horror as JEKYLL transforms into HYDE.)
[JEKYLL, sung]
Oh, God, what now-?
Oh, God, not now-!
Help me, somehow!
Please take the pain away!
Feel it fill me-
This will kill me!
Please, God, will me
Somehow to fight, I pray!
Oh, God, help me!
God have mercy!
Don't let her see-
Not on our wedding day!
(JEKYLL screams.)
[LISA, spoken]
Henry?!
[HYDE, spoken]
There is no Henry... only Hyde!
(The guests gasp in horror.)
[STRIDE, spoken]
Look at this monster, Lisa!
[HYDE, spoken]
And what would you have done with her, Stride? Put her in one of your Camden Town whore houses, and rented her out a shilling a time?
[STRIDE, spoken]
Damn you, Jekyll! Enough!
[HYDE, spoken]
Enough indeed... end of game!
(to LISA) We seem to be married, my love...
Ready for our bridal bed, are you?
(UTTERSON pulls out a gun.)
[UTTERSON, spoken]
Henry, stay back! Don't touch her! I beg you- stop! Stop now!
(UTTERSON fires. HYDE grunts, wounded.)
[LISA, spoken]
Henry! Oh, god, Henry...
[SIR DANVERS, spoken]
Lisa, no! Stay back!
[LISA, spoken]
Henry, it's me! If this is you, show me!
(HYDE grabs LISA and puts his hands around her throat, choking her.)
[SIR DANVERS, spoken]
No! Stop him!
[HYDE, spoken]
Stay! Or she dies!
[LISA, spoken]
(choking) H-Henry, I know you don't want to hurt me. I know you can hear me. Let me go. Henry, please... For us... Let me go... Please...!
(HYDE slowly transforms back into JEKYLL, releasing LISA. He turns to UTTERSON)
[JEKYLL, spoken]
Do it, John. I beg you, set me free!
[UTTERSON, spoken]
I can't, Henry...
[JEKYLL, spoken]
We promised... remember?
(UTTERSON, remembering the promise, points his gun at JEKYLL.)
[UTTERSON, spoken]
Forgive me-!
(UTTERSON fires. JEKYLL gasps in pain. They switch and HYDE roars as UTTERSON fires again and again.)
[LISA, spoken]
No! NO!
(LISA goes over to JEKYLL and HYDE, transforming as they die.)
[HYDE, spoken]
Lisa...
[JEKYLL/HYDE, spoken]
Lisa...
[JEKYLL, spoken]
Lisa...
(JEKYLL breathes his last, sighing softly as he dies.)
[LISA, spoken]
Go to sleep, my tormented love...
(The final music plays as LISA holds the corpse of JEKYLL in her arms.)
