[Intro]
Yo this song is called “The Threes.” I wrote it a couple days ago but something happened to me today that made me wanna spit it so here it is
[Verse 1]
His name is Alex, he’s trying to find balance
Even though prone to silence, he had obvious talents
He could paint a picture with more than a thousand words
If only the skills that he had had been encouraged
But instead he’s enraged, feels locked in a cage
He should never have to feel this way at whatever age
Or walk of life, he got knocked around
Almost lost his sight but picked himself up off the ground
Dusted off his shoulder like a Jay-Z song
Got a new lease on life and thought, “Well maybe they’re wrong.”
Asked his mom for new brushes, a few new canvases
Thirteen years old, newfound happiness
[Bridge]
Yo, you have to encourage communication, art, different languages, different foods, different cultures. It’s our children. It’s a beautiful and colourful world that we live in, now let’s explore it together
[Hook]
A child be born who found shelter from the storm
This is a true story, you’ve heard it before
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someway
We’re never promised tomorrow today, rebirth
[Verse 2]
Her name was Allyah so she had beautiful features
She was loved by her family, adored by her teachers
But she felt like a creature alone in the darkness
Cause every time she’d try to eat something she’d vomit
She was confused, she didn’t know why
She hid it for a long time but time passed by
And eventually caught her, her parents are concerned
Like what’s up with our daughter? We’ll take her to a doctor
He gives her some water and asked her some questions
A two hour session, they make some progression
His suggestion’s that she’s bulimic
She accepts it, her parents can’t believe it
But they stand strong for her cause she needs them
Sixteen years old, newfound freedom
[Bridge]
Yo, this happening in schools everyday all over the world but don’t worry, you’re not alone
[Hook] x2
A child be born who found shelter from the storm
This is a true story, you’ve heard it before
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someway
We’re never promised tomorrow today, rebirth
[Verse 3]
His name was John, he had his dad’s firearm in his palm
And thought about his life gone wrong
His pregnant girlfriend upset and crying
His best friend he’d just lost to drunk driving
Plus he’s been fired from his fourth job
He’s stressed, depressed, and feels like a poor slob
He takes the gun and kneels down before God
Says a little prayer, puts the muzzle to his ear
Let’s the trigger click but there’s nothing in the clip
He falls over on the floor and almost feels sick
And in that very moment, he saw his life’s worth
A blessing, not a curse, he needs to see his baby’s birth
And make grandparents out of his folks
Nineteen years old, newfound hope
[Bridge]
Yo, sometimes you just gotta be a shoulder to lean on
You know what I mean?
This is called The Threes
[Hook] x2
A child be born who found shelter from the storm
This is a true story, you’ve heard it before
Somewhere, someone, somehow, someway
We’re never promised tomorrow today, rebirth
[Outro]
But the story I was gonna tell y’all about happened to me this afternoon. I was out just running around, you know just running errands and this cat comes up to me and gives me this piece of poetry and I read it and it was beautiful. So I said, “Man, can give this back to you?” He said, “No, it’s yours. I want you to keep it before I commit suicide.” I was like, “What?” He said, “Man. My life isn’t going very well for me right now.” He was kind of down so we went to my house, burned one, you know, had some tea and just talked. Talked about life and the importance of it, the value of it and hopefully I shed some light on it for him, you know? Yo be happy with what you do, man. Rebirth. This is a story about three children which could be anybody’s life. Could be your life, my life, just keep your head up. It’s a beautiful thing you got ahead of you, you know?
For real
