“The Shield” is a simple song about pining to return to the comforts of your homeland. The track is named after the Canadian Shield, a geological region covering most of central and eastern Canada (including PUP’s hometown of Toronto).
[Verse]
Well I went down to Georgia where no one knows my name
I got drunk when I arrived and now I'm drunk again
The more I grow the more they say
“You're just like your granddad”
Sometimes drinking by yourself
Ain't so bad
These wounds won't heal
Until I'm back on the old Canadian Shield
Let's get real
I won't ever leave
The shield
[Chorus]
Frozen roads
Heart of stone
Weary bones
Come back home
[Bridge]
Well I keep coming back to you
'Cause I love this place and I think we should see it through
It's what you do to me
It's what you do to me
[Chorus]
Frozen roads
Heart of stone
Weary bones
Come back home
[Outro]
Frozen roads
Heart of stone
Keep on, keep on
Weary bones
Come back home
Keep on, keep on
