I still see the scar above my right eye I got when I was a kid
I remember dinner with my mother and my brother
At a table that was too small to fit us
I was a pretty good actor
I was so good at faking it
Convincing myself there was something wrong with all of them
But I was just a lazy kid
In the seventh grade I told the doctor everything that hurt inside of me
I told him all about the tightness in my chest
And he told me all these different ways to deal with anxiety
And I remember sitting in the car with the engine turned off
My dad told me he felt the tightness too
And he said, "Son, you'll make it through"
I still see the scar above my right eye I got when I was a kid
As a kid I collected more miles than I could ever know
Between Pennsylvania and New York, Louisiana and Ohio
I remember passing the fields and the cities that I loved so much
I was just a kid
With so much love
I still see the scar above my right eye I got when I was a kid
I still see the scar above my right eye I got when I was a kid
I still see the scar above my right eye I got when I was a kid
I still see the scar above my right eye I got when I was a kid
