Ninth track from Jon Phonics sophmore album “Half Past Calm 2”.
This is a storytelling track depicting two different guys relationship with the same woman.
[Hook]
I'mma show you what its like to be the other guy
What its like being either side of all the lies
Ayo they mess with your mind, you thinking life is all sweet
You never realize you're inside all the lies and deceit
[Verse 1]
I met miss about a month ago, drinking alone
At some club uptown flicking through pics on her phone
I'm probably like the tenth guy that's tried to step to this dame
And most likely the tenth that's shot down like enemy planes
So I admire from a distance saying nothing cos I'm shook and sober
But by the fifth Corona pimp persona's taking over
Introduced my self, convo even got a smile my way
I ain't a player but son was getting the time of day
Hit it off straight away; one drink became two became four
Before we knew it last orders were called
Flash forward to a cab ride where its hot and heavy
But shots of Henny messed my memory rest is very sketchy
Next morning she's supping OJ from a carton in some undergarment
Eying her curves this girls bangin' in the back department
Honestly I'm gassed, miss thing is where its at
Thinking its too good to be true and so there's gotta be a catch
Is there some fella that she's dating? some current situation?
She turned away and said if she's honest its complicated
Said she's engaged to some high flyer raking in dough
Obsessed with his job and the spark fizzled out ages ago
And seeing that he'll never slow and put the work on the shelf
She'll the town with his money and have fun by herself
That was a month ago since then we've had no problem with that
It's our little arrangement guess we've got each other on tap
The other guy
[Verse 2]
Can't believe that I bagged her once the dating was done
I put the time in and trust me I had chased her for months
Recently she been amusing that she's getting ignored
But I'm just working hard and making sure our future's secure
I'm closing contracts in Japan at like six in the morn
And it's killing me cause some nights, I don't get in at all
Was leaving meals going cold and she was stressin' it
Not picking up her calls or collecting all her answerphone messages
She swear that I'm obsessed with it now
The paperwork seminars, all the meetings and the trips out of town
Though recently she's chilled a bit and she's give me some space
Took some hobbies up and spending much more time with her mates
Sometimes she stop out, her and mates; bottle and wine glass
Ringing me up tipsy says she's too drunk to drive back
Least I know her whereabouts, got work time to air it out
Although its weird I see her less even though we share a house
I'm grateful that she's bitchin' less and quit all the stress
Getting on better plus she's even got a spring in her step
Figured it's just one of those stages of relationships
You know the push pull, fuss and fight, wrong and right, you make it fit
I let her do her own thing and she's running around
But yo she's faithful so I've got nothing to worry about
So with my work and my woman all in sync yo I got it right
I've got real love so I feel sorry for them other guys
[Hook]
It's the other guys, think it's all sweet?
Two sides to every story
