Devon wrote this song after his dog was diagnosed with cancer. He’d heard once that you will own many dogs throughout your life but there will always be the One that was your bestest best friend.
I guess I thought you’d live forever
I always thought we’d be together
A lifetime of moments boiled down to a phrase
In an off chance i notice, you show your age
Just a bird in a cage too weak to sing again
You are the only one (you’re in everything I do)
You are the only one (running home to be with you)
You will always be the only one
There’s a weight on my shoulder, I’ll bare ‘til it’s over, over
You’re in everything I do
You did all I ever asked of you
It’s kisses in the morning, but then you’re starved by noon
I felt it a warning, taken away too soon like a sunny day, as the clouds are moving through
You are the only one (you’re in everything I do)
You are the only one (running home to be with you)
You will always be the only one
There’s a weight on my shoulders… I carry ‘til it’s over, over
I guess I thought you’d live forever
I’m gonna miss our days together
Our sunny days in the backyard in the afternoon
You were just there right beside me… taken away too soon
Losing your best friend moving on to someone new
You are the only one (you’re in everything I do)
You are the only one (running home to be with you)
You will always be the only one
There’s a weight on my shoulders I’ll bare ‘til it’s over
There’s a weight on my shoulders, I carry ‘til it’s over, over
