“Please don’t hang up,” Freddy says
“There’s something I need to say to you!”
My heart beats in my throat as Freddy continues:

“I wanted to call you
To say that I’m sorry
And I started a program
Late last year

The way that I acted
I will live with forever
But this program’s a respite
And I can’t believe I’m here

And the minutes seem like hours
Seem like years, and years, and years
The city stops all the sound it makes
Silence rings, while the city breaks

Minutes seem like hours, til the city wakes
And sunlight reappears

But then I remember
That those minutes are moments
And those moments are pieces
Of a whole

And I wish it were lasting
But it’s more like it’s leaving
