You watch the world go by from that dusty window up high
With eyes trained on passers-by
And not so much as a smile
Could change the course of your life
Oh where are you from?
Who was your father and who are your sons?
That’s something I’ll never know
But, boy, am I glad I crossed eyes with the lady in the window
You watch the world go by from that little window up high
In silence as the cars go driving by
A stranger looks to the side and is met with a grin of pearly white, The likes of which they have never seen before
Oh whеre have you been?
What kind of places and wonders have you seen?
Were there companions, lovers, friends?
Or did you sail the lonely stream
To the places you’ve been?
Was this life a dream?
Oh when you go, are there those to remember your name?
Oh when you go, will it shine or will it rain?
All that I know is I’ll remember your face For the rest of my days. Smile and a wave engraved in the eyes of the passers-by
Cloudy blue and snowy white, oh how could I forget that humble sight?
Neither knows the other’s stories told
Once she was young and walked these very roads
And one day I’ll be old, with a window of my own
Weary eyes watching the streets I call my home
And there in my reflection a face I know
The lady in the window
