“The House You Built (Untouched)” tells a unique narrative about parents who stayed together for the sake of their children, regardless of their love falling apart, and how that decision made their kids have a happy childhood.
This is the fifth track of Hands Like Houses' sophomore album Unimagine.
[Verse 1]
You used to know so well those weathered hands
When they were gentle
When they brought the colour to your cheeks
They still do, but not the same
'Cause they turned their back on you
And when she's hiding at your feet, you know you'll stay
[Pre-Chorus]
These sentiments are secondhand
He's fighting for his heart, but he is losing ground
She's unintended, not unloved
And you're the one to keep her safe and sound
[Chorus]
Don't look down
Even though they're looking down on you
The house you build on solid ground will be a home
In time, you'll see it
Don't look down
Even though they're looking down on you
The love you built your house around
Will make it home in time to see them through
[Verse 2]
Her shoes are scuffed, she drags her feet too much
But baby, lift your face, you don't need to justify your place
So stay just what you are, you've come this far
If only I could show your future, you would light up like the sun
[Pre-Chorus]
These sentiments are second hand
She's fighting for your future and she's gaining ground
You are protected, you are loved
So show them who you are and make them proud
[Chorus]
Don't look down
Even though they're looking down on you
The house you build on solid ground will be a home
In time, you'll see it
Don't look down
'Cause there's no one looking down on you
Your house is built on solid ground
You'll be just fine in time, just see it through
[Bridge]
Hey Little Light, aren't you a big achiever?
Hey Mrs. Might, I know that you believe in her
Hey Mr. Beaten Down, you found your heart again
In the hope you built your house around
You gave your little light
You gave your little light a brand new start
[Chorus]
Don't look down
'Cause there's no one looking down on you
The house you build on solid ground will be a home
In time, you'll see it
Don't look down
'Cause there's no one looking down on you
Your house is built on solid ground
You'll be just fine in time, just see it through

This song is a narrative based on the combined stories of a few people quite close to me. It follows a family where the love between the parents broke down for various reasons, but they kept their responsibility to their children to protect them from their own weaknesses and failures, and give them...
