The Golden Vanity

Oh, I know a ship in the old country
And it goes by the name of the Golden Vanity
I'm afraid she will be taken by the Turkish Roveree
As she sails upon the lowland

Then up started our little cabin boy
Saying, "What will you give me, if the galley I destroy?
"I will give you of my gold, and my daughter to enjoy

So he bent his breast, and away swam he
Until he came to the Turkish Roveree
And he took out his auger, and he bored holes three
And he sank 'em in the lowland

So he bent his breast, and back swam he
Until he came to the Golden Vanity
Crying – "Captain, take me up! I am drowning in the sea!
I am drowning in the lowland

I am drowning in the lowland sea!"

"I'll not take you up – nor give you money
And my daughter so fair, you shan't marry
For all I care you can drown in the sea!
You can drown in the lowland
Lowland, lowland
Drown in the lowland sea!"

Then his shipmates drew him up, but on the deck he died
And they stitched him in his hammock, which was both clean and wide
And they lowered him overboard, where he drifted with the tide
'Til he sank into the lowland

He sank into the lowland sea
