K took a drive on Saturday
To see a friend that moved away
Bought a house on crystal lake
Past the trees, fields, and horses that stared
It was so quiet and boring there

Sat around the years recalling years
Apartments shared and bedbug fears
K’s friend adored her rural life
Everyone around was peaceful and nice
And nobody locked their front doors at night

Saw the ring sitting by the sink
K tucked it in her coat pocket
And then late that night as she drove back
K pitched the ring out into the black
