I went down to the fishing hole
Took along my fishing pole
Some' grabbed my hook, got my bait
Took me out in the middle of the lake
Some' jump, I got sunk
Baptized on my credit

Fishing down on the muddy bank
I felt a pull, give a big yank
Holed up 3 old muddy boots
Ford radiator and a Chevrolet coup'
Handed it in for our national defense

You go fishing and I'll tell you what to do
You go set down by a grassy slew
You get a piece of string tied on a pole
Throw it out, middle of the hole
Find a shade tree, set down, go to sleep
Nobody catches fish anyway, just a lеgend

Sitting in the boat with a bucket of beer
Ain't caught nothing but I didn't much carе
Guess I was pretty well satisfied
Had my little lady right by my side
Taking it easy
Worm been gone off the hook for just about an hour
I was busy

Jumped in the river and went down deep
Hundred pound catfish laying there asleep
Jumped on his back and rolled him around
Saddled him up and I come to town
Dogs a-barking, kids a-sqaling
Women a-crying, cop cars a-coming
Me a-running

Waded out in the sandy bar
Caught myself a big alligator gar
Brung him a-home across my back
His tail must have been dragging a mile and a half
Just a-flipping and a-flopping
Sold him for a quarter, shot craps, got in jail
Never will catch any of 'em alligators no more

One night back I took me a notion
Go out fishing in the middle of the ocean
Threw out my line I got me a shark
Didn't bring him home till way past dark
He's a man-eater, tough customer
Just wasn't quite tough enough

Back one night had me a dream
't about I was fishing in a whisky stream
Baited my hook with apple jack
Throw out a drink, bring in a gallon back
Done pretty good, till the creek run dry
So I gave fish back to finance company
