Composed in the span of less than a month, this work was premiered in Prague by the Bohemian Quartet in October 1896.
The quartet is divided into four movements:
1. Allegro moderato
2. Adagio ma non troppo
3. Molto vivace
4. Finale: Andante sostenuto — Allegro con fuoco
