[Intro: Fan]
All the way from South Africa, Johannesburg
I discovered your poetry and your spoken word
6 years ago when I first heard
I'm a Muslim, I came from the streets to Islam
The ghetto, now when you see your brother give a palm
Embrace with a hug and greet with salaam, salaamu 3laykum
Man it moved me, it changed me
Because at the time I was struggling with the group of friends that I was with
You know, I was born a Muslim but I was finding my path and He moved me
Thank you very much, brother Belal
[Chorus] (x2)
I'm a Muslim, I came from the streets to Islam
The ghetto, when I see my brother give a palm
Embrace with a hug and greet with salaam, salaamu 3laykum
[Verse 1]
Yo, listen, 10 years
My brother, that's good to hear
Religion came to you while you was up in there
See I was in South getting everybody scared
When they see us coming out with the thobes and the beards
First they were saying it was weird
Then they're calling it a fashion
But who really cares, I'm on this thing with a passion
With my brothers that fear, the pathway to heaven
Yeah we're tryna get there
We shed a couple tears, standing in salah
Who cares about the road life, I care about Allah
My relation with him, take a look at where we've been
Original ghetto child, raised up in sin
But I flipped it around, and you're looking like my twin
Feesabilillah, I'm a reflection of him
& if you're a brother too then I'm a reflection of you
So In'shaa'Allah we can make it through
When I break this news mummy went through the roof
But I gave her a bit of dawah now she's on this too
Say Maa'shaa'Allah
Dawah starts at the root
Then I'm back to the street to convert my whole crew to the truth
[Chorus] (x2)
I'm a Muslim, I came from the streets to Islam
The ghetto, when I see my brother give a palm
Embrace with a hug and greet with salaam, salaamu 3laykum
[Verse 2]
Yo, 15 years a Muslim, 10 years a poet
Call it what you want, I say this journey's been heroic
From chilling on Redbrick, with Shaun and Kamarka
To using them grey bricks to build an orphanage in Gambia
SPOT project yeah that really touches spot
It was like only a year ago, we were looking at an empty plot
Help of Allah and the work of Abu Bakr
Now looking at the smilea on these orphans faces really means a lot
Yeah religion's been pure, from the beginning
A mercy to mankind, shows purpose of living
We was walking round blind, state of ignorance
Allah blessed us with His knowledge and intelligence
I looked at my own life, nothing but pain and sorrow
I started travelling, supporting people of tomorrow
Yo, from gang banging on the streets fam
Allah guided us to religion, Islam
[Chorus] (x2)
I'm a Muslim, I came from the streets to Islam
The ghetto, when I see my brother give a palm
Embrace with a hug and greet with salaam, salaamu 3laykum
