Streets of London

Let me walk through the Streets of London,
And realise what’s yet to come,
Diagon Alley, I’m walking to reverse the spells that have already won.

Let me walk through the Streets of London,
Where life can be so tragic,
The stories of the unheard live on our pavements,
And fight against the midnight magic.

Let me walk through the Streets of London,
And take in what’s in this scene,
History repeats itself,
In our capital once upon a dream.

“Charity starts at home”,
Nah, that doesn’t make sense,
How charity can start at home if some of us don’t have an address,
And if a home defines a man, let's take a look at our residents on this chosen land,
4 bedroom homes,
Shore ditch apartments,
Houses in Spain,
Deciding between whether floor or carpet.

I leave the lights on when no one’s home,
I run up the stairs in the dark because I’m scared of being alone,
For some of us, there’s no place like home,
I said for some of us there is no place like home.

And it’s ruthless,
That it’s 2016 and people are still living roofless,
I’ve heard it all:
“Look at that tramp.”
“That guys on smack.”
“This is really what happens kids when you don’t pass your GCSE’s and SATS.”
During the war, air raid shelters were built in London for protection,
And today, air still raids the shelters in London and it sickens me I can see a reflection.

I don’t like the word shelter,
It doesn’t do it justice,
Once you have felt that freezing numbness of London’s roughness,
And you lock eyes with a volunteer and you feel that instant substance,
A bond so trusted that’s no longer corrupted,
A place where your alien thoughts are no longer abducted,
And the comforts of you heart and mind have finally adjusted,
And they will be with you until the year 3000,
And this don’t go busted
Like I said, I don’t like the word shelter,
It doesn’t do it justice.

It’s not even funny,
I’m walking down the street ordering food from Just Eat,
On the same street that people want to just eat,
I’m not trying to give a speech,
Even though it sounds like I am,
The irony is the proof is in the pudding,
I’m just as guilty as all of you, man,
Being homeless cannot be a part of our normality,
Can somebody please start a Kickstarter for humanity?
The fact that it’s a routine and it needs a workout is insanity,

And it’s making me mad,
How bad news keeps breaking but we don’t talk about it because it’s not Breaking Bad,
And have I got news for you?
Access to medical care comes hard enough- Doctor Who?
We don’t just have Homes Under The Hammer- And the houses that are made of card,
I’m going to take this to the Top Gear- and I’m not talking about racing cars,
We have people living in between houses- if you want to know who the real Inbetweeners are,

It’s quite problematic,
How we look to Escape To The Country every time we find some Cash In The Attic,
And it’s upsetting because it’s real,
That life’s a Game of Thrones mixed with Netflix and chill,
I’m not trying to pretend it’s all right, you see,
I was left without food before,
So- who wants to Come Dine With Me?

Diagon Alley, let's play Quidditch over the forever-rising sun,

Listen to the stories of the unheard and share them with our nation,
