[Verse 1]
Even the highs feel like lows
I'm sick of all of my clothes
I'm getting tired of the same conversations
I can't accept the feelings of elation
I'm flying high but am I self-sabotaging?
I'm leaning further in than ever
Let you in but now I need to be guarded
Every day's a revelation
[Chorus]
Sometimes I feel
Like my heart has been split open
You see everything I'm hoping
I'm a river running high
Sometimes I feel
Like there's a freeway running down my neck
There's traffic passing through my chest and through my mind
Sometimes I feel
Like my heart has been split open
You see everything I'm hoping
I'm a river running high
Sometimes I feel
Like there's traffic passing through my chest and through my mind
[Verse 2]
I'm burning faster than ever
I'm burning out to my ends
I'm running out of time to spend with my friends
And when I do, it's with eyes wide
Building and breaking my pride
I'm getting big in my bubble
Losing perspective, think I could be in trouble
Every day's a revelation
Every day's a revelation
I'm learning things about myself
[Chorus]
Sometimes I feel
Like my heart has been split open
You see everything I'm hoping
I'm a river running high
Sometimes I feel
Like there's a freeway running down my neck
There's traffic passing through my chest and through my mind
Sometimes I feel
Like my heart has been split open
You see everything I'm hoping
I'm a river running high
Sometimes I feel
Like there's a freeway running down my neck
There's traffic passing through my chest and through my mind
Sometimes was written by Tim Nelson.
Sometimes was produced by Tim Nelson.
I wrote/recorded/produced Sometimes at home in Brisbane at the end of 2017. I mainly used my Alesis synth, Baby Bottle vocal mic, and some drum loops. Our longtime collaborator and friend John Castle mixed the song in Melbourne and it was mastered in New York by Mike Tucci.
Cub Sport is an entirely self-managed and independent group, so I felt a lot of pressure with the BATS album staying on top of everything while touring, doing press, writing the next album, holding down a day job (which I’m now lucky enough to not need), dealing with some pretty major health issues...
It started with the opening synth part, which reminded me of Robert Miles and that sort of 90s/00s pop sound which is something I really love. I had some of the lyrics already written in my phone and the rest came to me as I was writing the music. I wanted the chorus of the song to completely shift...
