Grayscale shared with PasteMagazine the meaning of this song.
“Slipping Away” was the first song we started. This song also took the longest to complete by far. At one point, we had six different chorus melodies at the studio, but eventually landed on what it is now.
[Verse 1]
Heartsick, beaten up, can't deny
The whispers running through my head tonight
Punch, drunk memories, pull the line, I’ll find time
End your suffering, tell you everything
I’ll always see your face when I am dreaming
Couldn’t pull my weight, he'll take my place
And I will be broken
[Chorus]
You’re slip, slipping away from me
And sick, sick of the apathy
I’m just short of the things you need
The one waking you from your dreams
Forever standing in the way
We’re torn apart and I’m to blame
You’re slip, slipping, you’re through with wishing
And sick, sick of the apathy
(Slip, slipping away from me)
[Verse 2]
Wide awake, think it’s time that, we step away for a while
I’m to blame, I never learned a thing from my mistakes
I’ll miss your eyes in the sun
And the way you’d smile at me when I was half asleep
Let it slip away, I let it slip away
[Chorus]
You’re slip, slipping away from me
And sick, sick of the apathy
I’m just short of the things you need
The one waking you from your dreams
Forever standing in the way
We’re torn apart and I’m to blame
You’re slip, slipping, you’re through with wishing
And sick, sick of the apathy
(Slip, slipping away from me)
[Bridge]
I am nothing, I will never be
I’m a nightmare living in your dream
Wakes you up from a dead sleep
Wish I was still yours, but I’ll never be
[Chorus]
You’re slip, slipping away from me
And sick, sick of the apathy
I’m just short of the things you need
The one waking you from your dreams
Forever standing in the way
We’re torn apart and I’m to blame
You’re slip, slipping, you’re through with wishing
And sick, sick of the apathy
[Outro]
I am nothing, I will never be
I’m a nightmare living in your dream
Wakes you up from a dead sleep
Wish I was still yours, but I’ll never be
