From the album Provenance, “Sleepovers” combines both Owl City’s influence on AMBYNT as well as his experiences with his cousin during their childhood. “Sleepovers” also attempts to embody childhood and nostalgic memories with friends and family.
Verse 1:
Laying here with my eyes up to the ceiling
Can't fall asleep cause that'd be too revealing
(Of) soft blurry outlines
And fast transport airlines
That fly me away from here
And I know that you know
When day comes we won't show
Red eyes and night skies that we saw oh last night
Sit on your rooftop, take in the backdrop
(And I'll) try not to stare at the blacktop
Chorus:
Ice cream and sweaters
And old Christmas letters
TV at oh three
With friends out to get tea
Seashores and blue seas
With closed eyes to sightsee
Under blankets, carefree
Listening to CDs
Cause playing some Ocean Eyes
Helps me to socialize (with)
All of the thoughts turning my sight to swollen eyes
I'll stay awake if I can catch my breath
Verse 2:
Awake before daylight
Tucked tight in an airtight
Commercial airline flight
Soaring out of eyesight
I said to myself
If I woke up too early
"Slow the pace of my dreams"
Quick pacing, hearts racing
Strap in just in casing
The stars interlacing
(My) mind's always tracing
The path that I took here
I tried to overhear
Sounds of the sea but they all disappeared
Chorus (x2):
Ice cream and sweaters
And old Christmas letters
TV at oh three
With friends out to get tea
Seashores and blue seas
With closed eyes to sightsee
Under blankets, carefree
Listening to CDs
