In the fourth track on ImDontai’s sixth extended play, Haphazard, Dontai raps about the recent gun violence in the hip-hop community and in the African-American community.
On June 18, 2018, XXXTentacion, a friend of Dontai was murdered due to gun violence.
[Intro]
What we're seeing here is not just a shooting of a hip-hop artist... What I’m concerned about as chief, and I know our community leaders are as well, is we gotta continue to go at this recent increase in shooting violence, because it's not just a dispute over a personal matter
[Chorus]
Ohh, shoot them shots
Another bullet hit his heart
Somebody died today
Somebody died today
[Verse 1]
Just shoot a nigga, so you prove to a nigga
That you are that nigga, while government watch
Black killin' blacks on the block
Meanwhile, y’all mad at the cops
While yo' own people doing all the robbin'
Addin' to all the motherfucking violence
Cops don't give a fuck, they watch in silence
Y'all be going ham, they sick of trying
"Watch yo' back, these niggas off the hinges"
Brother shot, now he just want revenge and (Huh)
The cycle continue, the truth is like ice on your dental
I'm takin’ a bare in your mental
These bullets is meant to go in you
They busting, no matter the venue, uh
Bullets rattle through the diners
Lead as hot as the Bahamas
Strikin’ kids inside of mamas
Boys is dead over designer
Know it's hard but niggas gotta realize that
Taking life for some ice, it ain’t nice when you finish
All the hype gonna die when you get a life sentence
Homie, not worth it, you throwin' away yo' purpose
Put all that effort in somethin' deservin’
So many boys laid to rest with a sermon
All this frustration got my body burnin', huh
[Interlude]
We need to redouble our efforts and keep working towards, uh, intervening and finding ways to resolving disputes without people resulting to a bullet with no name on it
[Chorus]
Ohh, shoot them shots
Another bullet hit his heart
Somebody died today
Somebody died today
[Verse 2]
Sick of these legends being laid to rest
Speakin' they mind, getting shit off they chest
How come the ones speakin' truth in the booth
Givin' back to the youth get clapped?
Ain't it suspicious how they all provide a guide
To open our eyes to all the government lies
And they just happen to die? (Save that boy there)
Uh, I don't know what to believe
But I know the government got shit up they sleeve
And I ain't being quiet, I ain't sittin' silent
They gon' have to put me in insane asylum
I'm not a legend, I'm not even close
But I'm speakin' that real 'til the day that I'm ghost
Don't call me a prophet, just call me ImDontai
I'm speakin' the truth when they putting out nonsense
This shit got me fumin' like steam off the kettle, huh
Bring it to life like Geppetto, huh
Dash to the facts with my foot on the peddle
Or maybe assumptions, but this is abundantly clear
Silence, now give me yo' ear
They do not want us to hear
The truth that these legends adhere to spreading, huh
They end up dead, it's a modern beheading
[Outro]
When you expose corrupted ideas
Niggas gon' die along with they peers
Messages cut, they pulling the plug
'Cause they know exactly what's silencing-
