The concept behind this song started with one idea: writing the first verse at the start of Grade 12 and the last when I graduated to see how things changed. This was originally just for myself as a way to put my year into perspective and see how God has worked, but it clearly grew into so much more...
[Verse 1]
My hearts been heavy
First day of 12th grade, I'm not ready
Surrounded by fake friends that I've lost faith in
Over the past years I've lost too many
I feel alone in these halls
With everybody walking in 'em
I should probably give God a call, but I've been feeling too lazy to be talking with him
I'm caught in rhythms and honestly, I don't even know what I've been called to be
What I'll do after school? It's been hard to see
Still scared of the future, it's dawned on me
Ever since they started partying I couldn't relate
I'm an outsider, fingertips grip the gate
Tryna find myself in a different place
Cause this life's my hell and I just hope things change
[Chorus]
Tryna find my way
And make a great escape
All these thoughts that kill me
They don't see the real me
Tryna find my place
Live in my pain now
Oh, don't let me let you down
[Verse 2]
Thank God things changed
Last day of 12th grade and I'm ready
Cause I found real friends who helping me heal and deal with these issues and keep me steady
Never fall
God's pickin' up even if I didn't call
Felt lost and in love, I was living in it all
They were chugging beers, I just didn't get involved
Used to think it was a loss now I know it paid off
Yeah
Got art opportunities I never thought would happen
Realized I could make a career out of my passion
Asking
God to show me all of his plan and
Whether that includes these graphics or rapping
I'm good
Yeah
Finally found myself in a different place
Cause my life's been saved ever since things changed
[Chorus]
Tryna find my way
And make a great escape
All these thoughts that kill me
They don't see the real me
Tryna find my place
Live in my pain now
Oh don't let me let you down

I didn’t actually contribute anything to this song, but I was there while Kevin wrote most of it and bounced it back and forth with Adrian on the production end. Kevin came down to Oklahoma for a few days and we worked on this during that time. On the last day of his visit, we stayed up until 2 in t...
