Both Gary Valentine and Debbie Harry were disappointed when “Scenery” didn’t make the cut for Blondie. Valentine was concerned it had to do with Harry “holding back” on the track with her vocals (Against the Odds, 34), and producer Richard Gotteher said it “didn’t fit with the rest of the material”....
[Verse 1]
We took too long to park the car
Ran across the street into the bar
Your face said it was four o'clock
I closed my eyes and heard a shot
[Verse 2]
The traffic lights were much too hot
I walked my eyes around the block
Purple shadows were so thin
I had to close my eyes again
[Chorus]
(I didn't know) I didn't know that they were important to you
(I thought their faces were a poster) I thought their faces were a poster
Natural things, scenery
[Verse 3]
You showed me your kind of madness
Saw sound slipping silently
Time passenger to future shock
I closed my eyes and saw you drop
[Chorus]
(I didn't know) I didn't know that they were important to you
(I thought their faces were a poster) I thought their faces were a poster
Natural things, scenery
[Instrumental Outro]
