The Salton Sea is a saline sea in the Sonoran Desert in southeastern California. It was accidentally created in the first decade of the twentieth century when the Colorado River overflowed its irrigation controls and flooded a basin.
For a period in the 1950s and 1960s, the Salton Sea became a tour...
[Verse 1]
We'll spend our very last days together
There in the sun by the Salton Sea shore
Spread our blankets by the shells of the old bay shops
And the liquor stores
Catch some fat dead fish
Out at Bombay Beach
Drink long, cool agua negras while our bones get bleached
[Pre-Chorus 1]
We'll watch the ghost of Enola Gay
Drop its dummy A bombs
As they practice dropping Japs away
We'll be playing croquet on the phosphate lawns
[Chorus]
Ooh, ooh, we can moan with the world
Ooh, ooh, sit and groan with the world
Gonna cry for our lost splendor
Mumble holy prayers we barely remember
We were kings and queens, now our brittle-bone dreams
Are shipwrecked on the Salton Sea
Ooh, ooh
[Verse 2]
Hear Sinatra and the Rat Pack singing
Their voices carried on the desert wind
They gig nightly at "Desolate Resort"
'Cause they’re dedicated men
And the sea hags clean the ash trays
Daily change the algae sheets
And the sleepers' souls are sowin’ what the rusty reaper reaps
[Pre-Chorus 2]
The phantom of the Southern Pacific
Sinks beneath the new river's flood
Roaring in from Mexicali, down into this rancid valley
Drinking flesh and blood
[Chorus]
Ooh, ooh, we will moan with the world
Ooh, ooh, sit and groan with the world
Gonna cry for our lost splendor
Mumble holy prayers we barely remember
We were kings and queens, now our brittle-bone dreams
Are shipwrecked on the Salton Sea
Ooh, ooh
[Guitar Solo]
[Pre-Chorus 1]
We'll watch the ghost of Enola Gay
Drop its dummy A bombs
As they practice dropping Japs away
We'll be playing croquet on the phosphate lawns
[Chorus]
Ooh, ooh, ah, we will groan with the world
Ooh, ooh, sit and moan with the world
Gonna cry for our lost splendor
Mumble holy prayers we barely remember
We were kings and queens, now our brittle-bone dreams
Are shipwrecked on the Salton Sea
[Outro]
(A watery grave for you and me)
('Neath the stagnant waves of the Salton Sea)
(Let's go down)
Ooh, ooh
(A watery grave for you and me)
(Everybody drown)
We can moan with the world
('Neath the stagnant waves of the Salton Sea)
(Let's go down)
Ooh, ooh
(A watery grave for you and me)
Sit and groan with the world
(Everybody drown)
('Neath the stagnant waves of the Salton Sea)
(A watery grave for you and me)
(Everybody drown)
We can moan with the world
