[Intro: extract from 1958 Mike Wallace interview of Erich Fromm]
Interviewer: When you say "the true religious experience", what do you mean by that, doctor?
Erich Fromm: I mean by that the capacity to feel deep love, deep oneness, with my fellow man, with nature, and if I were religious in the conventional sense, I would say with God. But it doesn't matter whether one uses God or doesn't, what matters is which experience a person has
[Chorus: Dr Koul]
You could tell me everything you ever thought inside of you
And I would find a way to not decide if you're OK, I mean
You could tell me everything you ever want to try to do
And I would try to listen and just smile and say, "OK"
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to hang out take the hours of the night away
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to watch the sky and listen what you've got to say
[Verse 1: Dr Koul]
My mind is kind of limited, I think a lot and listen bad
I'm trying to learn to do this better, practice what I speak about
But someone turned the speaker loud
So now you've got to spell it out in body language
As we now pretend to comprehend eachother
And maybe we do
We start to dance and as we sway we know the truth
We swear we know the truth, we know we know it all
Or that we know as little as the prayers that we throw to God
I share it all with you, you share it all with me
And in this moment of intimacy we're locked inside our minds
But we are also free. And if it's up to me
We'd take this moment, make it last forever
But then again it's what ever
'Cause the present is the infinite and we're together in it
And that's a tragedy but also how it has to be until the finish
But is there such a thing or is it only a beginning?
And now I hear you speak and I'm remembering to listen
Listen
[Chorus: Dr Koul]
You could tell me everything you ever thought inside of you
And I would find a way to not decide if you're OK, I mean
You could tell me everything you ever want to try to do
And I would try to listen and just smile and say, "OK"
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to hang out take the hours of the night away
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to watch the sky and listen what you've got to say
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to hang out take the hours of the night away
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to watch the sky and listen what you've got to say
[Verse 2: Dr Koul]
The problems of this world start to dissolve and we become OK
Layers of our beings shed like skins of growing snakes
Misunderstandings are just growing pains
Social constructs go away, let the monsters show their face
Even biological realities are no longer in place
Our atomic structures mingle and they show the pace
From here to outer space, everywhere is our place
Namaste you see my soul I see your soul
I know that we are one and one alone and in a million
And from the sun into my home, and all the galaxies
Anxieties, philosophies, it's just for fun
Because there is nothing to gain when there is no one
Or someone, or something, or somehow, or somewhere
Don't go there: Too late. What we created is too great
The love just brought us to a new place
A new zone, a new globe, but who's home, and who knows
A rhizome, and my poem, the mind's blown
And I'm going to be sick, and now I'm feeling better
So I'm going to re-sit the exam of my endeavour, as we sit
Face to face, palm to palm inside a gentle embrace
Our heart beats in calm. I remember not to judge you
As I listen to your heart's desire
And we both attempt to make it work
I play my part, liar, until we do depart
Why are we so complicated can't it just remain
As simple as the plane depart. We're just a brain and heart
We're just a frame for art, we just refrain
From starting to remain apart. And then we drift together
As we play the harp or God plays us
Like the strings that must never touch
Except by proxy of the fingers strumming us like paper cuts
Extracts of our beings fly across and try to touch
[Bridge: Dr Koul]
But we will never separate nor will we unite
So we will never love nor will we ever fight
But we will never separate nor will we unite
So we will never love nor will we ever fight
[Chorus: Dr Koul]
You could tell me everything you ever thought inside of you
And I would find a way to not decide if you're OK
You could tell me everything you ever want to try to do
And I would try to listen and just smile and say, "OK"
You could tell me everything you ever thought inside of you
And I would find a way to not decide if you're OK
You could tell me everything you ever want to try to do
And I would try to listen and just smile and say, "OK"
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to hang out take the hours of the night away
I don't want to judge you, I just want to love you
I just want to...
Yo, I don't want to... I just want to...
I don't want to... I just want to...
Yo, I don't want to... I just want to...
I don't want to... I just want to...
I don't want to... I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to
[Outro: Erich Fromm]
Love is not easy. All great religions postulate love as one of the greatest accomplishments. If it were that easy, or as easy as most people think, certainly the religious leaders would have been rather naive
