“Roses” is a moment of clarity; a genuine encounter with the Gospel. Despite having grown up in the church, I had never really felt like I had really internalized the Gospel message. This song details the Gospel becoming truly real in my life.
[Verse 1]
Droplets of tears
Fall on the face
Of this barren Earth
A mother stands losing her Son
She pleads but there’s no guilt
[Pre-Chorus]
His body ripped apart
Leaving scars, scars
With the weight of His cup
He won my heart
[Chorus]
Crosses, nails, and whippings
The rocks beneath Your feet
Death and the grave
Couldn’t defeat You
And my heart is overwhelmed
Yes my heart is overwhelmed
So now I sing, I sing
Of Your love
[Verse 2]
Drops of crimson
Spill onto the
Surface of my heart
Permeate down to my soul
Oh I am overwhelmed
[Pre-Chorus]
But hatred emanates
From the stars
But Your love
Is the eye of the storm
[Chorus]
Crosses, nails, and whippings
The rocks beneath Your feet
Death and the grave
Couldn’t defeat You
And my heart is overwhelmed
Yes my heart is overwhelmed
So now I sing, I sing
Of Your love
[Bridge}
The crown they wove
Shed Your blood
Like roses
Pierced Your side
A body marred for me
Your gift to humanity
And never will I
Comprehend the gravity
Of what You gave up
On that cross
So I, I’ll give You everything
[Chorus]
Crosses, nails, and whippings
The rocks beneath Your feet
Death and the grave
Couldn’t defeat You
And my heart is overwhelmed
Yes my heart is overwhelmed
So now I sing, I sing
Of Your love
