‘Rose Garden’ is about the frustration in not being able to physically help someone in need. Specifically, Rae dedicated “Rose Garden” to a friend who lives with a long-term illness and it was about Rae’s desire to help make things better.
[Verse 1]
You're uninvited, you're kicking at my door
Feeling restless, keep coming back for more
A heavy burden pulls me to the floor
Taking over, make no mistake I'm sure
[Pre-Chorus]
Body, don't give up on me
Who are you to judge me, pulling at my arms and legs?
Body, don't give up on me
Everyone is powerless, unable to help anyway
[Chorus]
What you're going through, I can't imagine
How you barely blink, like nothing has happened to you
I could plant a rose garden
For you to lay your head down on
And I could plant a rose garden
For you
[Verse 2]
Taking a toll, but I hold my head up high
I stay unfazed, but there's water in my eyes
Now
[Pre-Chorus]
Body, don't give up on me
Who are you to judge me, pulling at my arms and legs?
Body, don't give up on me
Everyone is powerless, unable to help anyway
[Chorus]
What you're going through, I can't imagine
How you barely blink, like nothing has happened to you
And I could plant a rose garden
For you to lay your head down on
And I could plant a rose garden
For you
[Bridge]
Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
[Chorus]
And I could plant a rose garden
For you to lay your head down on
And I could plant a rose garden
For you
And I could plant a rose garden
For you to lay your head down on
And I could plant a rose garden
For you

From the Someone Out There track-by-track:
“Rose Garden” is a really special one to me. It’s about feeling frustrated that you can’t do anything physically to help someone. It’s about a friend of mine who has lived with an illness for a long time, and wanting to be able to physically get something...
Rae Morris:
The end section that happens, I really had to fight to keep that there.
It’s the song that summarises that feeling and the idea of planting a rose garden, because that’s the only thing you can physically do to make a difference.
