“Ready For The Storm” was written following a phone call with someone whose contact with me had become a toxic relationship– it was written as a promise to myself to never engage again- so far, it’s worked!

When I look back at the pattern of our lives
How you set me up to fail so many times
I should have listened to my gut, I should’ve learned
But I kept Jumping in the fire, surprised when I got burned
It’s the crazy part in me that wouldn’t see
And if the truth be known, I’m still unraveling
It was poison, it was toxic
It was venom, arsenic
Oh the way I see it
Chorus
But if I do nothing else in this life
If I screw up this chance to finally get it right
I will only have myself to blame
If I run into a coming train
Forget to leave my raincoat by the door
Cause this time I’ll be ready
This time I’ll be ready for the storm
You were never on my side, were you
You were only out for you, weren’t you
When it fell apart I took the heat
I lost my pride, and everything
And everyone threw rainbows at your feet
Cause I was poison, I was toxic
I was venom, arsenic
Oh and I believed it…
Chorus
And I’ll remember to remember
I’ll remember to remember
And you won’t ever get the best of me
If you ever think I’m feeling weak and need you
Well I’d rather shoot my foot off than to see you
And I think I finally realize
You’ve never been a friend of mine
So here’s all I’ve got to say- “ good-bye”…
And If I do nothing else in this life
If I screw up this chance to finally get it right
Now I see , with friends like these
Who needs enemies
The weatherman can see it and he warns
And next time I’ll be ready
Next time I’ll be ready
This time I’ll be ready for the storm
