About

The song is a story told by Henk Hofstede’s mother, about the pain in WW2. Although no-one in the family was Jewish, they still heavily experienced the war, because they lived in Amsterdam.

Radio Orange Lyrics

[Verse 1]
My brother and sister
They walked back
For hours to our house without a map
Under the table
Hide themselves

[Verse 2]
My mother found them
Without a word she took them in her open arms
The hunger, the danger
They will never have to go
Back to the farm

[Verse 3]
The German soldiers with their heads down
They were walking back to the east
Along the highway
We were watching
Surprised by the age of the soldiers…our enemy

[Verse 4]
My mother had a headache on the 4th of May
After 5 years of darkness there’s light on Liberation day
When there’s white bread falling from the sky
When the people were singing and dancing in the streets
She was in bed all day under the sheets
Too much light after years of darkness
Darkness

[Outro]
In a suitcase in the attic
I found a photograph
