If I told you everything, would you tell me I’m sad?
If I gave you layered ideas, would you dissect?
If I gave you food for thought, would you digest?
If I put myself to sleep, would you wake up?
If I dropped a gem or two, would you take one?
If another body drops, and it’s not of fair complexion
How loud should I scream so that you’ll pay attention?
If I became more passive, would you take advantage?
If I kept the aggression, would that make me manic?
If I made a mistake, who would turn their backs?
If you made a mistake, would you learn from that?
If we took it to the field, tell me, what does that prove?
If you were stuck in my shoes, tell me, what would you do?
Are your eyes too blinded to have a vision?
Tell me, when I say these things, do you hear or listen?
Are you here or distant?
Do you fear what’s distant?
Does it trouble you what's known?
Is it clear what’s missing?
If I explored different avenues, how would you observe me?
If I stuck to the same block though, would you desert me?
Would you shed a tear if I left this year?
Friends and peers, is there understanding amidst the cheers?
I’ve garnered a lot of applause for what I’ve said in the past
I don’t want just applause for what I’ve said in the past
When you march in the streets, tell me, what are your motives?
Do you do it to feel good or are you sincerely devoted?
Do you do what you do only to be accepted?
Do you recognize your ways, but never choose to correct them?
I looked under the rug and saw the treasures that lay
I looked deep in my wants to keep my worries at bay
